A devastating fire tore through a Kew Gardens Hills home last Wednesday morning, May 29, leaving the lives of an upstanding family overturned. At 9:30 a.m., the Kornblums called for the FDNY as an inferno raged in their basement at 147-15 68th Drive. "We were told to vacate ASAP," said David Kornblum to the QJL. "We are thankful to be alive, b'chasdei Hashem. We are indebted to the fast-thinking work of the fire department. We are grateful that the blaze was contained and our home has not been condemned. However, much work remains."

Calls for the return of hostages were heard amid patriotic pop songs at the Celebrate Israel Parade in Manhattan this past Sunday, which was rebranded for this year as Israel Day on Fifth. Rising to the security challenges following an uptick in anti-Semitic incidents following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, a record number of participants and spectators were determined to be heard and seen.

On the evening of Tuesday, May 28, Rabbi David Katz, Executive Director of IHF, [the Israel Heritage Foundation] joined a historic gathering of “Unity in Action,” a bipartisan dialogue on supporting Israel, graciously hosted by Mr. Ari Rosenblum and his colleagues at the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland County’s Community Relations Committee.

Last Thursday evening, the community gathered at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills for an inspiring challah bake hosted by Chazaq in solidarity with Israel. The event created an atmosphere of unity, spirituality, and tradition.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Naiburg visited the 107th Precinct in Kew Gardens Hills to meet with NYPD Academy graduates who are set to be assigned to Patrol Borough Queens South. Chief Naiburg spoke about the shared mission between the NYPD and the Queens District Attorney’s office to safeguard Queens residents while ensuring fairness and equity inside the courtroom. The high level of attentiveness and engagement displayed by the group of young officers during the meeting set a positive tone for their upcoming assignments in the borough.
