This past Wednesday evening, Yeshiva Tiferes Moshe presented its Holocaust memorial film project at the Young Israel of Queens Valley to the Queens community. The film documents the lives of three survivors of the Shoah, HaRav Moshe Walkin, Professor Asher Matathias, and Mrs. Blanche Fixler. Their stories and experiences were shared with 17 of the yeshivah's eighth graders.

YCQ marked Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut with meaningful and age-appropriate ceremonies. Due to the events of the past few months, this year’s activities were especially poignant and inspiring.

On Monday evening, May 20, the YCQ Parent-Teachers Organization (PTO) held a beautiful superette honoring beloved longtime faculty members who are leaving at the end of the school year. Morah Sharon Korn, our beloved Preschool Director, as well as long-time kindergarten teachers Morah Janet Koenigsberg and Morah Rhona Lipetz, are retiring at the end of the school year. Mrs. Allison Blass, beloved first grade teacher, will be leaving YCQ for an administrative role in another school.

Monday marked the day that the international Jewish community commemorated Yom HaZikaron: a day that was perhaps more solemn and meaningful than ever before. MTA talmidim can all relate to the current matzav in Eretz Yisrael. Many were in Eretz Yisrael on October 7, and since their return have heard many speakers who add to the talmidim’s understanding and appreciation of what is happening now. Everyone is living through the War of Iron Swords and is acutely aware of the rise in anti-Semitism everywhere, including their own neighborhoods.

This past Shabbos was the shloshim for Yeshiva Tiferes Moshe talmid Chaim Avraham ben Baruch Yisroel Jungreis a"h. His loss was strongly felt by his chaveirim and all the talmidim at the yeshivah. The boys in the Jr. High chose, on their own, to organize learning mishnayos l'iluy neshmaso. With the participation of so many of the students, they were able to accomplish finishing the entire shas mishnayos. A beautiful siyum was held in the yeshivah this past Sunday morning, immediately after Shacharis.

YTM talmidim were able to witness another aspect of Hashem’s amazing creations as the student body saw a near total eclipse from the roof of the Yeshiva building. It has been years since the last such event occurred in our area, and the next one will not take place for another 20 years!
