On February 11-12, the Yeshiva of Central Queens (YCQ) Boys Grades 7 and 8 were treated to a Shabbaton at The Bushkill Inn & Conference Center in Pennsylvania. Their day began with davening and breakfast, followed by orientation with their counselors.
Students in grades 1-4 gathered at the Bnos Malka Academy to celebrate some of the wonderful learning taking place in the classrooms. In conjunction with the school-wide learning about Sh’mitah, each class undertook a study of something pertaining to the mitzva of Sh’mitah. Parents enjoyed seeing each class’ beautiful and creative Sh’mitah project, while the students were proud to show their newfound knowledge to family and friends. “I was surprised to see such detail in the girls’ work and how much they really knew about Sh’mitah,” remarked one proud parent.
MTA Freshmen enjoyed an incredible Night in Yeshivah with their rebbeim and Senior Cub2Lion mentors on Thursday, February 17. The evening kicked off with pizza and a d’var Torah; then the real fun began!
What an exciting STEAM night we had at Chabad STREAM School! Families from all over Queens were intrigued to learn more about Chabad’s unique approach. The attendees were given a front and center view to how our students learn and thrive at Chabad. The night started with an intro to the systems and structures that are unique to our school: teaching and embracing the whole child via inquiry/project-based learning and segued into the highlight of the evening: the STEAM challenges!
At Central, we are committed to our students’ health and well-being in all ways. Last week, we had programs highlighting important issues affecting many people of all communities and backgrounds. On Tuesday, sophomores and juniors had the opportunity to participate in a program with the organization “Communities Confronting Substance Use & Addiction” (CCSA) to learn about the important topic of substance abuse.
Last week, the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach (HALB) held its fifth annual History Day Fair as part of the larger National History Day Competition. The National History Day competition is an event in which more than a half a million students participate each year. The projects examine an event in history and how it relates to a national theme.
