Hands-on laboratory experience is a significant part of our science curriculum at Central. Over the past few weeks, two Central science courses, AP Biology, taught by Mrs. Ruth Fried, and Forensics, taught by Mrs. Shulamith Biderman, have engaged in biotechnology laboratory experiments during two full-day visits to the Dolan DNA Learning Center in Cold Spring Harbor. “These labs bring what we teach in the classroom to life,” said Mrs. Biderman. “These hands-on experiences are crucial.”

IVDU LI was fortunate to begin a Big Brother Program with a select few boys from DRS’s ninth grade. After sharing some time eating delicious doughnuts, the boys from HALB’s DRS High School joined the boys from IVDU LI for a fun activity of human bingo, an enjoyable ice breaker where the boys had to find out information about each other and get to know one another better. They had to walk around the room finding out “who has a pet dog” or “who plays a musical instrument” amongst other fun facts.

Micah Kaufman, a board member of SINAI Schools and recent honoree at its annual dinner last month, spoke to junior high school students at the Yeshiva of Central Queens. Kaufman, a motivational speaker who addresses New York area schools about the intrinsic reward of doing chesed, also took time to meet with SINAI@YCQ students. He is an inspiration to all!
