BYQ’s first graders discovered how delicious learning can be! The girls are learning about the lifecycles of different plants. The year’s study began with the apple’s cycle for Rosh HaShanah. For the fall, they focused on pumpkins. The teachers read a book about pumpkins to introduce the life cycle of pumpkins. The first grade classes began with two essential learning questions. First, what is a pumpkin? Their next question was: “What is inside of a pumpkin?” Interestingly, many girls predicted pumpkins would have one big pit like an avocado. Surprise! Pumpkins actually have many seeds! Once the teachers opened up the pumpkin, the girls had a third question: How many seeds are inside?

This past Wednesday, Mesivta Yam HaTorah went to Adventure Park – a ropes course and zipline park. The students and their rebbeim enjoyed for hours the multitude of courses and the varying levels of difficulty that the park has. In addition to having fun, the boys were able to build stronger relationships with one another as they helped each other complete the courses.

On Motza’ei Shabbos, November 16, the Yeshiva of Central Queens third grade students had their annual m’laveh malkah. The students worked for weeks with their moros and their music teacher, Morah Tali Spector. The students then performed the songs they learned in front of their parents, grandparents, and teachers. The songs were meaningful, especially since the students worked so hard learning and practicing their songs. “The m’laveh malkah was fun. I liked singing Eliyahu HaNavi the best,” said Shimon Borukhov, grade three. The production put smiles on everyone’s faces. The students sang about Shabbos and had a great time performing. Ava Sternfield, grade three, said, “The m’laveh malkah was awesome because I got to perform in front of my family with all of my friends.”

Math is engaging, rigorous, and fun at Bais Yaakov of Queens! The sixth grade math students created Venn Diagrams while learning prime factorization. They compared and contrasted the prime factors of two numbers. They used their Venn Diagrams to determine the greatest common factor and least common multiple for those numbers. The girls appreciated the graphic organizer as a visual model to make abstract math more concrete. “The girls enjoyed ‘playing around’ with the numbers,” said Mrs. Lindell, the sixth grade math teacher. They look forward to more engaging activities to make math come to life!

It was an exciting and impactful Shabbos for 65 students from Emet Outreach’s Forest Hills Leaders Fellowship. Hosted by Rabbi Reuven Kigel, Emet’s Campus Director, and Mrs. Devorah Kigel, an Emet educator, women’s speaker, and a dating and marriage coach, the students were warmly welcomed to the community of Passaic, New Jersey. The theme of this memorable Shabbos was “Keeping Shabbos Together: Disconnecting in Order to Connect.”

On Sunday morning, November 10, the fathers of Yeshiva Tiferes Moshe’s seventh grade were invited to spend the morning bonding with their sons in Yeshiva. The morning began at 9:15 with a special seventh grade Shacharis minyan. After the minyan, the fathers and their sons had the opportunity to share breakfast together. Once everyone’s hunger was fully satisfied, the morning moved on to a special introduction to Bar Mitzvah for both fathers and sons. The seventh grade rebbeim invited the fathers to join their sons in class for a special father-son shiur.
