YSZ is ready to greet the Shabbat Queen! What a special and moving assembly we had in honor of Rosh Chodesh Sh’vat! The program started with a skit by our G.O. girls on the topic of Hadlakas Neiros. Morah Kitiza Pahlaef explained the unique significance of Jewish women lighting Shabbos candles; it is an eis ratzon (auspicious time) for each of us to daven for any requests we may have and to connect to Hashem. At that time, the Sh’chinah of Hashem enters our very homes!

The Rosh Chodesh BACK TO THE FUTURE Program at the Bais Yaakov Academy of Queens continued this past Rosh Chodesh Sh’vat. The famous woman highlighted this month is Rebbetzin Ruchoma Shain, author of the well-known All for the Boss, as well as other books. Each student received a card with Rebbetzin Shain’s picture and important facts about her life.

Last month, over 25 members of the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls’ MACS (Modesty Awareness Committee by Students) gathered to preview videos, articles, and photographs of images to prompt questions students ask about modesty.

During the fall semester, Shevach students participated in a compelling literary contest and had the privilege of hearing unique and inspiring guest speakers. These events exemplified the concept that learning and thinking about history teaches us what was, increases our understanding of what is, and helps us design our hopes for what will be.

The Yeshiva of Central Queens’ (YCQ) Grade Four students and teachers embarked on a space adventure at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Westbury on Wednesday, December 5. Upon arrival, each class was assigned their own personal tour guide, who presented the Hubble Telescope, an actual Lunar Module, and the first planes made by the Grumman Corporation, which is located on Long Island. YCQ students were amazed to learn that Russia was the first country to send men, women, and even a dog into space, and the United States was the first nation to have a man walk on the moon.

The seventh grade at Yeshiva Sha’arei Zion had a fantastic experience last Thursday when they went to Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in Kew Gardens Hills. They visited Rosh HaYeshiva Rav Akiva Grunblatt to be farhered (tested) on the two blatt Gemara that they learned. This was followed by beis midrash learning with older bachurim of the Yeshiva and a trip to the Yeshiva’s gym to enjoy some basketball. The boys had an amazing time and are already looking forward to completing the next chunk of Gemara to visit another prominent yeshivah!
