Rav Aharon Moshe Schechter zt”l, 95, led Midwood’s Yeshiva and Mesivta Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin for a yovel, building the institution into an enrollment of 1,800, becoming one of New York’s most prized Torah citadels in a neighborhood that radiates its k’dushah. Rav Schechter was niftar on August 24.

Rav Aharon Schechter zt”l had tremendous ahavas Yisrael, primarily showcased by a deep sense of achrayus, showing dedication and connection for every single Jew that came his way for guidance. As the Rav’s situation deteriorated and eating became difficult, the sage insisted that a phone be at his side in case his advice was sought. Rav Aharon felt responsibility and that he was here to serve a mission and show love and support for all different types of Jews, no matter their background, hashkafah, outlook, or lifestyle. We must remember that we are all Hashem’s children. With the Yamim Nora’im upon us, we can all work on this midah.

David HaMelech said: Va’ani kirvas Elokim li tov (As for me, being close to Hashem is what’s considered good). What King David (David HaMelech) desired was only one thing: to be close with Hashem.

A new Glatt eatery brings the vibrant flavors of shawarma and falafel right to your taste buds. Talia’s Steakhouse of Manhattan’s West Side celebrated the grand opening of its sister fleishig restaurant, Shawarma Shabazi, an Israeli food haven, earlier this summer, at 668 Amsterdam Avenue. I was privileged to attend the event alongside Simon Sebag, Jewish liaison to NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams. The festivities drew the attention of several elected officials, the hierarchy of Mayor Eric’s Adams administration, and blessings from Rabbi Abe Friedman. 

The Silicon Valley-based delivery giant DoorDash granted the Masbia Soup Kitchen Network an additional $50,000 worth of deliveries to help feed the needy during the upcoming High Holiday season.
