The Queens Jewish community had the opportunity to host Rav Yitzchok Kolodetsky shlita this past week. During his brief but impactful visit, Rav Kolodetsky spoke at several shuls and yeshivos, spreading chizuk, ahavas haTorah, and ahavas Yisrael to crowds of people.

The cover of the journal for the Congregation Ahavas Yisroel annual dinner has a heart logo symbolizing the connection of the shul members to each other and to the community and klal Yisrael. The numerical value of the Hebrew word for heart, leiv, is equal to 32. On Wednesday evening, May 8, shul members and friends gathered to celebrate the 32nd annual dinner for Congregation Ahavas Yisroel.
This past week, Yeshaya Kraus, LCSW, Community Engagement and Educational Manager of Shalom Task Force, attended the annual Torah Umesorah convention in Pennsylvania. Yeshaya shared that it was “a really great opportunity to meet with educators from all over the country and share how we can work together to foster healthy families and safe relationships.”
Twnty-two New York City, Long Island, and Westchester Schools
Participated in Initiative
UJA-Federation of New York announced Tuesday that its Day School Challenge Fund (DSCF) has generated $84 million in new endowment dollars for participating Jewish day schools and yeshivos in New York. Twenty-two schools from New York City, Long Island, and Westchester participated in the DSCF, raising $53 million. An additional $31 million was contributed from the match fund, yielding a total of $84 million for regional students.
Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, Rabbi of the Chabad of Poway, whose synagogue was attacked by a terrorist gunman on the last day of Pesach, will be the featured speaker at the annual Yom Yerushalayim celebration dinner of American Friends of Ateret Cohanim/Jerusalem Chai. The dinner is the main fundraising event of the American Friends, whose support is critical to the work of Ateret Cohanim in the so-called Muslim and Christian Quarters of East Jerusalem. For nearly four decades, Ateret Cohanim has painstakingly brought Jewish life back (inch by inch) to the areas that became “Jundenrein” after the fall of the Old Yishuv in the 1948 War of Independence. The dinner will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Marriot Marquis in midtown Manhattan on Thursday night, May 30.
