MTA is proud of Sophomore Basil Edelstein, who was honored at the Jewish Learning Experience of Bergen County Dinner on Motza’ei Shabbos, November 13. “JLE is a wonderful organization that provides spiritual educational support for those wishing for a deeper connection to Judaism,” shared Basil. “I have worked with JLE since 2017, helping to run their important programming, which includes Megillah reading, Tu BiSh’vat s’darim, and model Pesach s’darim, both in-person and on Zoom during the pandemic. It’s a great opportunity for me to be involved in Jewish education. I am very fortunate to reside in a community that has ample Torah resources, and it’s integral to share it with others who may come from different backgrounds.”

Touro College Sets Students up for Success; Medical, Dental and Health Science Deans Offer Insights into Admissions

What better way to learn how to ace your medical or dental school interview than to have a chance to talk directly to deans themselves? It’s no secret that Touro undergrad students interested in pursuing medicine and the full array of health science careers have an edge when it comes to access and opportunity. Many students go directly from a Touro undergrad to a graduate or professional program and accelerated pathways are available in several fields.

Hadar Bet Yaakov has much hakaras ha’tov for the tremendous display of community support that was shown to them during their Charidy event. All forces pulled together, and staff members, parents, and students worked the phones, sent out links to countless contact lists, and went into the wee hours of night until all call lists were exhausted.

For over two decades, Bagels & Co., at the intersection of Union Turnpike and 188^th Street, has been a staple eatery providing high quality kosher food for the growing Jewish community of Fresh Meadows and its nearby neighborhoods. Its clientele includes many organizations, corporations, and the hundreds of families and individuals who patronize the store each day. Under the Vaad Harabonim of Queens, the store follows the stringencies of pas Yisrael, kemach yashan, and chalav Yisrael.

There is an important characteristic in Judaism called hakaras ha’tov, being grateful. Every Yid must develop an awareness and a mindset that recognizes all the good that one receives and appropriately thank the Giver/giver. One of the ways in which we demonstrate our thanks to Hashem is by reciting Psalm 100 – Mizmor L’Sodah – in our weekday morning prayer service.

Voices For Truth And Humanity held their second annual Remembrance Awards Dinner this past Wednesday evening, November 10, in coordination with the anniversary of Kristallnacht. The organization is on a mission to stop the hate and educate the world of antisemitism. Overall, they promote Holocaust education in schools because the well-worn phase “Never Again” means to never forget. The group believes that fighting antisemitism and all forms of bigotry and discrimination is paramount. Voices for Truth and Humanity forcefully opposes BDS and other hate movements that use lies to delegitimize others. In addition to the Holocaust, Voices for Truth and Humanity promotes education of slavery and other genocides, primarily in public schools. They provide educational materials and factual information to counter the antisemitic voices, lies, violence, and intimidation used to promote intolerance. It is the hope of the organizers to reverse the dramatic increase of incidences of antisemitism and other bias crimes. Held at Crest Hollow Country Club, the event paid tribute to the work of the Wiesel family, and featured honored guests and political figures.
