In this week’s parshah, VaYeira, we see the extraordinary chesed of Avraham Avinu. Despite recovering from his bris milah and experiencing intense pain, Avraham sits at the entrance of his tent searching for guests. His love for welcoming others was so deep that Hashem sent mal’achim so that Avraham could perform hachnasas orchim.

Chazal teach us that true chesed is not simply doing kindness when it is easy, convenient, or when we are feeling our best. It is the willingness to see another person’s needs even when our own needs feel overwhelming.

But the parshah also reminds us of a deeper truth: Hashem Himself appeared to Avraham just to visit him and bring comfort – the first example of bikur cholim. Hashem’s presence teaches us that when we extend our hearts to someone who is struggling, recovering, or in pain, we are imitating Him.

In our own lives, we may be tired, burdened, or emotionally stretched. Yet every act of care – a text, a visit, a meal, a smile – brings light to the world. Hashem treasures even the smallest gesture.

May our T’hilim, our kindness, and our t’filos today bring r’fuah, y’shuah, and protection to all of klal Yisrael.
