Parshas VaEschanan begins with Moshe Rabbeinu davening – “Va’eschanan el Hashem” – a t’filah so deep, Chazal tell us it was one of 515 pleas. Even though Moshe’s t’filah wasn’t answered in the way he hoped, we learn a powerful y’sod: no t’filah is ever lost.
Especially in these days following Tishah B’Av, when we’re still carrying heavy hearts – for y’shuos, r’fuos, nechamos – this message is timely. Sometimes it feels like we’ve been davening for years with no visible results. But Moshe teaches us that every t’filah is heard, every word is precious in Shamayim, and nothing goes unanswered – even if the outcome isn’t what we expected.
In this parshah, we also read Sh’ma Yisrael, our eternal declaration of emunah and kabbalas ol Malchus Shamayim. Even in the darkness, we hold on to our connection with Hashem through t’filah and bitachon.
As we say T’hilim – each kapitel a t’filah, a cry, a hope – may we be zocheh to see y’shuos and nechamos for ourselves, for our loved ones, and for all of klal Yisrael, b’karov mamash.
