On Pesach, we relive our journey from Mitzrayim – meitzar yam, the narrow straits of the sea, symbolizing personal and national constriction. David HaMelech teaches us in T’hilim: “Min ha’meitzar karasi Kah – From the narrow place I called out to Hashem.”

The S’fas Emes explains that just as B’nei Yisrael cried out from the depths of galus and merited redemption, every individual can call out from his or her personal “meitzar” and Hashem will respond.

The Haggadah says: “In every generation, one is obligated to see himself as if he went out of Mitzrayim.” The P’nei Menachem notes that this is not just a memory – it’s a call to recognize that Hashem redeems us from every “mitzrayim” we face, especially when we daven and say T’hilim with a broken heart.

As we say T’hilim this Yom Tov, may we all call out from our personal meitzarim, and may Hashem answer us ba’merchav Kah – with expansive salvation and a g’ulah sh’leimah.
