Retailing has never been an easy business, but these days it’s harder than ever.  Supply shortages, inflation, and a weakening economy are making their problems worse. There’s one other issue that should be added to this list: shoplifting.

With cash in your pocket you can do what you want, whenever you want, without needing anyone’s permission.  Will this change when the government introduces a new digital dollar?  We’ll find out soon enough because financial powerhouses are already testing this idea.  

According to the calendar, 2022 is over, but its most important business stories remain headline news.  Even more, they very likely will continue to affect both the economy and the markets in 2023.  Following is a review of some of them.

Back in 1897, Mark Twain famously said that everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it.  Now, 125 years later, everybody is still talking about the weather - but these days, there are plans to do a lot about it. Are humans really capable of controlling the weather?  Will their attempts to do so make life better for the world or open a Pandora’s box of problems?

Everyone prays for an end to all wars, but if there is another one a new breed of soldier will play a leading role: completely fearless, ready to march into battle any time of the day or night, and will never complain or question orders, no matter how dangerous the mission.   

If you’re upset because meat, chicken, and turkey have become so expensive, hang onto your hats - because still higher prices are on the way.
