This week’s haftarah tells the story of Yirmiyahu HaNavi’s purchase of land when catastrophe loomed over Israel. This command from Hashem seemed to make no sense, even to the Navi who wrote it, but he listened to the Ribbono shel Olam, Who told him, “Behold! I am Hashem, the G-d of all flesh. Is anything hidden from Me?”

During the Manhattan hush money trial against former President Donald Trump, Judge Juan Merchan cleared the courtroom following a contentious exchange involving defense witness Robert Costello. Costello, who previously advised Michael Cohen, was brought in to discredit Cohen’s testimony. However, Costello’s demeanor, including shaking his head and making audible comments in response to the judge’s rulings led to repeated objections from the prosecution and visible frustration from Judge Merchan.
“After the attack on October 7, there was a lot of anxiety around school security,” says Rabbi Baruch Rothman, Darchei Torah’s director of institutional advancement. “Parents worried about sending their children to school. We took some very visible and concrete steps to increase our security.” This alleviated the anxiety, but it came at a high financial cost.”
JCT is offering accelerated enrollment for transfer students completing the current semester and those applying for admission in the Fall, as well as staff opportunities for faculty members.

Shortly after moving to Queens from Portland, Oregon, to begin college, Dov Brodkin whose family now lives in Monmouth County, was walking away from a local store where he had stopped to pick up a box of donuts. Just then a homeless man appeared to ask for money, but Dov told the man all he was carrying was his debit card; Dov offered to share his donuts instead which the hungry man happily accepted. Following the encounter, he was struck by the look in the man’s eyes, “a mixture of deep, sincere gratitude and connection.”
