Dear Editor:

 I enjoyed Warren Hecht’s columns lately about the Siyum HaShas and his travel escapades through Spain. Perhaps he turned over a new leaf. However, his last article was disappointing. I am not going to comment on everything from his most recent column, but just some highlights, or more aptly termed “lowlights”!

 Remember the 1960s cartoon, “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends?” Boris Badenov, Natasha Fatale, and Dictator Fearless Leader were spotted in Iowa. They must have meddled in the Iowa Democratic Party primary caucus that caused all the chaos and confusion. Someone should have hired Moose and Flying Squirrel for ballot security and Mister Peabody to count the ballots. If these clowns can’t manage a simple election, how can we trust them to run Washington?

 Frédéric Bastiat was a prolific French economist and political philosopher who lived from 1801 to 1850. In his relatively short lifetime, he published dozens of books and essays covering a litany of economic and political issues, ranging from socialism to free trade. As a vigorous and passionate defender of liberty and freedom, he vehemently opposed his country’s economic trajectory toward socialism, and any and all policies that, as he understood it, encroached on the liberties and freedoms of his fellow citizens.

 I hope you can clear up a matter that has mystified me for a long time, namely, why do you afford Warren Hecht a forum when his ideas are so completely repugnant to, presumably, the vast majority of your readers? Personally, I regard his column as simply a waste of valuable space in your high-quality weekly publication.

 Chazal teach us, “Kol Yisrael areivim ze la’zeh – All Jews are responsible for one another.” At a time when Israel is in danger, shuls and kosher markets are being attacked, anti-Semitism is rampant on college campuses, prominent politicians make blatantly anti-Semitic statements, and the New York State Department of Education is seeking to dictate what is taught and who may teach in our yeshivos. It is our responsibility to stand up for our fellow Jews in Israel and around the world.
