This week, the third grade talmidos of the Bnos Malka Academy held their annual Rashi Breakfast. After the students complete learning “Rashi script,” they celebrate the momentous occasion with a special breakfast. The students were privileged to hear from Rabbi Weichselbaum, the Menahel, speak about his experiences walking in Rashi’s footsteps literally. Rabbi Weichselbaum spoke about how learning Rashi is integral part of learning and understanding Torah, and it is a skill they will use for the rest of their lives.

The talmidim of Metivta Tiferet Torah had an in-depth halachic presentation in the halachot of shechitah from Rabbi Yosef Akilov, rebbe in the Yeshiva.

Rabbi Baruch Noy, Director of STEM and Educational Technology at HAFTR, was an instrumental part of creating the Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education (CIJE) Vex Robotics League, catering to the unique demands of Jewish day schools. Since the competition was created, it has expanded from four schools to over 20 across the tri-state area. HAFTR was the host of last year’s inter-school competition. While this year’s event could not be held on the same scale, with multiple schools competing in one location, the competition still took place, with CIJE staff visiting each school for an onsite event.

On Thursday, January 14, the whole eighth grade listened to a presentation by Mrs. Shoshana Soroka, editor of The Five Towns Jewish Home. Mrs. Soroka gave tips on how to talk and interview Holocaust Survivors. Mrs. Soroka did an amazing job of guiding the students. She was so engaging and listened intently as each student suggested certain types of questions. She went through the interview and explained how there would be questions about before the war, during the war, and after the war.

It was an incredible first semester of learning, growth, friendship, and fun at MTA! Talmidim finished the semester strongly and celebrated their learning accomplishments.

On Wednesday, January 13, the Yeshiva University High Schools held its Virtual Dinner of Tribute, honoring Essential Responders. The event celebrated the tremendous impact these individuals have made on the YUHS community and the overall Jewish community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and raised $430,000 in support of the exceptional educational experience YUHS provides to its students.
