Network Ambassadors Program Leads Campus Visits for Legislators to Foster Awareness of Nonpublic School Education

Yeshiva Har Torah and lay leaders representing Teach NYS, an education advocacy group and a division of the Orthodox Union’s Teach Coalition, recently hosted New York State Assemblymember Edward Braunstein for his first visit to the school.

Whether it’s building a gravity-propelled car that hurtles towards a wall, constructing a bridge that can support a thousand times its own weight, or diving deep into the cosmos with images from the James Webb Space Telescope, NSHAHS students showed off their science chops with a third place overall finish at the recent BJE Science Olympiads held last month at Lander College.

Students at SINAI@YCQ wasted no time during their first day back after Pesach break, creating papier-mache globes in connection with their geography lessons. What a hands-on, engaging way to learn about the world!

Morah Saba put together a powerful display explaining the Holocaust. Students had the opportunity to hear from Holocaust Survivor Mrs. Sally Muschel. Mrs. Gail Rusgo spoke to students about her recent trip to Poland. The fifth-grade choir performed at the community Yom HaShoah Program.

On Tuesday, 27 Nisan (April 18), SKA commemorated Yom HaShoah. Throughout the programming of the day, the students acquired a sense of meaning and inspiration. At the start of the program, the students and faculty joined to hear an empowering speech given by Mrs. Drebin on her personal connection to the Holocaust and how we can internalize the events to our everyday lives. The school-wide commemoration was highlighted by the lighting of yahrzeit candles in memory of those who perished. Posters and original student art depicting the World War II war years were on display in the hallways of the school.

Rosh Chodesh Iyar was celebrated at Yeshiva Tiferes Moshe with dual mesibahs. The fifth and sixth graders enjoyed a special breakfast with the launch of a special sefirah bein adam lechavero program, entitled Olam Chesed Yiboneh. The initiative, concluding on Lag Ba’Omer, will focus on small acts of chesed done for friends of the fifth and sixth grade talmidim. Boys in grades first through fourth participated in their own festive mesibah where Rabbi Ahron Bookson, assistant menahel, kept the students spellbound with a story packed with important lessons. The entire yeshivah was treated to Rosh Chodesh donuts courtesy of the Parents Association.
