Twenty-four years after the terror attacks of September 11, the Jewish community of Kew Gardens Hills gathered at the Young Israel for an evening of reflection, unity, and remembrance. Hosted by Talkline CEO Zev Brenner, the memorial brought together civic leaders, clergy, and residents to honor the victims and reaffirm the city’s resilience.
From yeshivos to shuls, the Rav’s words of Torah and warmth left a lasting impact on the children, families, and rabbanim of our community.
As we enter the Yamim Nora’im, a time of t’shuvah, t’filah, and tz’dakah, we are reminded that every blessing in our lives comes from Hashem. This is a time to examine our actions, strengthen our emunah, and return with sincerity to Hashem.
Parshas Ki Savo begins with the words: “Ki savo el ha’aretz asher Hashem Elokecha nosein l’cha – When you come into the land that Hashem, your G-d, is giving you.” The parshah opens with the mitzvah of bringing bikurim, the first fruits, as a heartfelt declaration of gratitude. It reminds us that everything we have is a gift from Hashem, and our role is to recognize, thank, and sanctify His blessings.

As we enter the month of Elul and prepare for the Yamim Nora’im, the entire community is invited to strengthen their practice of the mitzvah of Bikur Cholim. This Sunday evening, September 7, at 8:00 p.m., a community gathering will take place at the Young Israel of Queens Valley, 141-55 77th Avenue in Kew Gardens Hills. The event – open to both men and women, and with no solicitations – will highlight practical ways to assist those facing health challenges.
