The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) last week sent a letter to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after she claimed that the United States “is running concentration camps on our southern border,” in which it criticized her decision to invoke Holocaust-related terminology as part of a political debate (The full text of the letter appears below).
The Shulchan Aruch (Yoreh Dei’ah 151) rules that, included in the prohibition of lo s’chaneim is lo sitein lahem chanayah b’karka – do not provide for them (non-Jews) a residence on your Land (Eretz Yisrael).
More than 125 friends and supporters of OHEL Children’s Home & Family Services joined the 15th Annual OHEL Rosemil Healthcare Golf & Tennis Classic. Drive Out Stigma was the event slogan, mirroring OHEL’s mission of 50 years of breaking down various stigmas in the community.
On Monday evening, June 17, Yeshivas HaMasmidim held its end-of-year siyum celebration at the Agudath Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, in the Yeshiva of Central Queens. The celebration was for the boys in grades 3-6 who came every Monday night since Sukkos to do extra learning together in groups with rebbeim. Rabbi Chaim Dov Wahrman, Director of Yeshivas HaMasmidim, pointed out, “It is special to work with children who come after school to learn Torah.”
Rabbis from across the Orthodox spectrum came together for a kinus Torah (Torah conference) on the second day of Shavuos at Congregation Machane Chodosh in Forest Hills.
Lawrence resident Dr. Nadja Graff, vice president of the Touro College Division of Graduate Studies, recently received the Touro College Graduate of Social Work’s National Distinguished Leadership Award for Social Justice and Educational Advancement at the school’s annual Academic Recognition Ceremonies. The event was held at the 92nd Street Y for the Class of 2019 and their families and friends on June 4th.
