Event helped local houses of worship (synagogues, churches, mosques, temples) and nonprofit institutions learn about the Nonprofit Security Grant Program and how to apply for funding; grants are used to improve safety and security of facilities

Fleetwood Synagogue hosted its annual open house membership brunch on Sunday, welcoming prospective families from all over the metropolitan area to the southern Westchester community. Over 30 attendees enjoyed freshly made crepes and açaí bowls from the newly kosher local eatery, Swirls and Sweets, as they learned about all that Fleetwood has to offer: a growing young community, affordable housing, proximity to kosher shopping in Riverdale and New Rochelle, convenient access to Midtown via the Metro-North, and choice of yeshivah day schools.

Chaverim of Queens, founded in memory of world-renowned philanthropist Mr. Jack Friedman a”h, started with just 10 volunteers. That was over 10 years ago, when calls were dispatched to volunteers via beepers. Today, Chaverim of Queens has over 100 volunteers who respond to calls rapidly via an app. The acts of chesed that the volunteers of Chaverim do on a daily basis do not go unnoticed by those who have benefited from the assistance provided.

Rabbi Marty Katz held a recent meeting with HaGaon Rav Chaim Kanievsky shlit”a. Amongst the sheilas discussed with the sage was Rabbi Pesach Lerner’s Etetz HaKodesh slate in the World Zionist Elections. Rabbi Katz had turned to Rav Chaim’s grandson, Aryeh, and received an overwhelming reaction showing support for the initiative, indicating that a vote for slate 1 is a correct path for Orthodox Jewry

It is hard to believe that five years have passed since the passing of Rabbanith Ruth Menashe (Manasseh). During her life, Rabbanith Ruth was the beloved Rabbanith of Midrash Ben Ish Hai, where she organized Shabbatonim, singles events, parties, and gave many shiurim. She also worked as an assistant principal for many years, touching the lives of countless students and teachers. She inspired people daily, with the Torah Minute Woman’s Corner messages she shared, and through her conversations with others and the Torah classes she gave.
