From time to time, I write articles about expressions that people find annoying. And some time ago, I wrote an article that commented on how many of those expressions had something to do with the concept of time. I clearly wrote that one as publicity for my newest book, Jewish Time, which was supposed to come out around then, but then somehow came out late. I don’t know.

I love how when you buy something for a good price, you’re so proud of it that you start showing off to people who are not directly affected by it.  They do not care.  They don’t care that you saved a couple of your dollars that they will never see on an item they will never use.  Yes, they do have some level of ve’ahavta lereiacha kamocha, but you’re coming in beaming, and they think you have great news to share, but this affects their lives even less than if you have a baby. 

Welcome back to “What weirdo technology did Mordechai buy this week?” – the column where we talk about something I bought and ask ourselves why, and in the end, we don’t really come up with an answer.  It’s all about the journey.

So my daughter is going on her first date ever, and everybody involved is nervous, though some of us more than others. I’m pretty nervous as the father, especially since I have a cough that I can’t get rid of.  I have to shake his hand, right?  Even if I’m sick? 

There is no day in school more exciting for kids than days when there’s a class party. Everyone gives out candy and you sing songs and you sometimes push the desks out of the way and then the teacher says, “Party’s over! Time for lunch!” and then you come home with a bag that is every kind of nosh with no wrappers sharing flavors at the bottom of your knapsack.

I would have to say that one of the biggest issues with running a Chanukah gift article every year is that I write it too close to Chanukah, and all the good gifts are already sold out.
