That’s one proposal to 'help businesses,' but at what cost?

As its name suggests, Main Street is the commercial spine of Kew Gardens Hills, but since the coronavirus quarantine was declared in mid-March, many of its restaurants and small stores have not reopened. With many consumers staying home and fears that there is not enough room for social distancing, the city Department of Transportation is looking into the possibility of “pedestrianizing” certain streets so that restaurants would have space for outdoor dining.

Rabbi Yitzchak Feldheim, well-known speaker, shared a fascinating shiur about Lag BaOmer on Monday evening, May 11, which was hosted by Chazaq and TorahAnytime.

‘Sinai at Home’ Offers Shiurim from World-Renowned Torah Scholars

In an effort to assist communities celebrating the holiday of Shavuos at home, the Orthodox Union, the nation’s oldest and largest umbrella organization for the North American Orthodox Jewish community, has created a unique online pre-Shavuos Torah learning platform. “Sinai at Home” will offer learning resources from world-renowned Torah scholars on a variety of Torah topics with the aim of empowering people to learn at a high level on their own or with their families.

Shortly after 7:00 in the evening on Friday, May 15, as the neighborhood of Kew Gardens Hills was preparing for Shabbos, two New York Police Department officers from the 107th Precinct were brought to the hospital with neck and back pain after their cruiser sailed into the front doors of the Lander College for Men / Beis Medrash L’Talmud. The college, a division of the Touro College and University System, located on 150th Street, just off of 75th Road, has several exterior crash bollards that narrowly missed the trajectory of the cruiser. The officers were briefly entrapped in their patrol car following the dangerous impact, requiring an immediate extraction. Hatzolah of Queens, EMS, FDNY, and NYPD all responded in force to protect the chaotic scene and save New York’s Finest.
