The National Council of Young Israel (NCYI) praised Secretary of State Mike Pompeo after he sent a critical letter to Rep. Andy Levin, who spearheaded the November 21 congressional correspondence in which 107 Members of Congress expressed their “strong disagreement” with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s landmark announcement that the US State Department does not deem Israeli “settlements” in Judea and Samaria (otherwise known as the “West Bank”) to be in violation of international law per se.

Fleetwood Synagogue started the fun early with a festive pre-Chanukah bash on Sunday, December 15. Kids participated in various Chanukah-themed games and crafts, followed by supper and a stuff-your-own-sufganiyot station. Kids and adults alike enjoyed using candy syringes to fill their doughnuts with custard, frosting, and, of course, jelly, and topped them with mounds of sprinkles and icing. Everyone went home with a goody bag (and a sugar high!). Dreidels were spun and much gelt changed hands.

Assemblymember Daniel Rosenthal stands with the Simon Wiesenthal Center to highlight the top ten incidents of anti-Semitic hate in the world this year. The Assemblymember decried the rise of anti-Semitism in our country and spoke about the important work he is doing in Albany to help combat this bigotry.

For six straight years, Riki Deutscher and Yelli Koenig have teamed up to bring the Kew Gardens Hills community a warm and delightful Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society pre-auction event. Although the hosts never asked for recognition or applause, it is appropriate to acknowledge that the evening was hosted at the Koenig residence and dedicated in memory of Deutscher’s mother, Raizel Rivkah bas R’ Moshe Yechiel a”h. Together they rallied the women of our community in unison, to respond to those hit with sudden misfortunate. Since 1997, RCCS has been on a mission to help suffering Jewish families. This year’s auction, The Mission, was designed with a mysterious adventure in search of hope.
