HALB eighth grade boys have begun writing to their new pen pals: seventh grade boys at Pelech. They are writing in each other’s languages and will be sending 2-3 correspondences each by the end of the year. What a beautiful way to feel connected to peers in Israel!

The students of the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls were presented with an extraordinary program devoted to mental health awareness. Organized by SKA’s Guidance Department and the SKA Student Mental Health Awareness Committee, each day of the week, beginning on Monday, May 24, was dedicated to mental health issues faced by students, based on suggestions made by the SKA girls.

On May 21-23, MTA hosted an unforgettable Shabbaton for the Sophomore and Junior grades at Camp Dora Golding. The event featured an exciting array of activities, including sports, games, hikes, shiurim, and chaburos, barbecues, bonfires, and an all-night basketball tournament. Talmidim truly enjoyed this special opportunity to bond with their friends and rebbeim. “One of our main goals for this exciting Shabbaton was enabling our talmidim to be present while they were with each other,” said Director of Student Activities Rabbi Danny Konigsberg.

Mazal tov to the Stella K. Abraham Mock Trial Team!

On May 23-25, SKA competed against the winners of each of New York’s counties. With SKA representing Nassau County, the team swept the semifinals and, out of 242 teams, came in second place in the New York State Finals! In an email, the Honorable Kim O’Connor, who judged the semi-final round, stated that the SKA students “were all very prepared, thought well on their feet, and are incredibly talented.” We are incredibly proud of this tremendous accomplishment and wish continued success to the Mock Trial Team.

The Kanfei Yud Beis Bas Mitzvah Program culminated with a meaningful and fun evening celebration for the 6^th graders. Mrs. Nechama Jurkowitz, limudei kodesh principal, addressed the girls, encouraging them to look back and see how far they have come this year. She emphasized the need to use their expanded understanding of the various relationships in their lives to become empowered in this new stage as a Bas Mitzvah. Mrs. Jurkowitz quoted Rav Wosner as she beseeched the girls to start davening already now to build a future bayis ne’eman b’Yisroel, because their tefllos and mitzvos are so precious to Hashem.

HALB Seventh Graders built musical instruments all made of recycled materials in their science class. Students incorporated their knowledge of sound waves, frequency, pitch, and amplitude.
