On Thursday evening, June 1, Chazaq hosted a beautiful shiur in memory of Dora bas Zilpah at Ohel Simcha.
Rabbi Asaf Haimoff, well-known speaker, spoke about the recent loss of the gadol ha’dor, Rav Gershon Edelstein zt”l, who devoted his brain and heart to serve Hashem, and he served Hashem on the highest level.
On Tuesday evening, June 14, Rabbi Simantov Yanetz, Rav of the Bukharian Congregation of Briarwood, hosted the Sassover Rebbe for a holy, unforgettable event for the community. During the Rebbe’s visit, he spoke in the shul and at the home of the president of the shul, Mr. Roman Davydov. The full name of the Sassover Rebbe is Rav Duvid Taytelbaum, but everyone refers to him as the Sassover Rebbe. Rav Noach Isaac Oelbaum, Rav of Congregation Nachlas Yitzchok, also welcomed the Sassover Rebbe at Rabbi Yanetz’s house.
On Sunday afternoon, June 11, Chazaq, in conjunction with the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island and Councilman James F. Gennaro, hosted a Jewish Cultural Carnival in the backyard of Lander College for Men in Kew Gardens Hills that drew close to 2,000 Queens community members.
World-renowned speaker Rabbi Dovid Orlofsky spoke on behalf of Chazaq, Amudim, and UJA-Federation at the Fresh Meadows Beit Eliyahu Bukharian Synagogue in Hillcrest on Tuesday evening, June 20, in memory of Jack Friedman and for a r’fuah sh’leimah for Shabsai ben Pesha Rachel.
Did you ever wish there was a way to teach children manners and strategies for communication? Now there is a newly released children’s book that does just that and more. Local author Dr. Barbara Tuckel’s Bank Robbers Don’t Say Please (Menucha Publishers 2023), is a must read for children 9-12. There’s plenty of interesting information that’s helpful for adults, as well.
You couldn’t sit still as the rhythmic music of Pumpidisa flowed through the spacious, airy shul at the Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Queens during a special concert event on Wednesday afternoon, June 28. Residents were clapping their hands, swaying, and singing along to the music, along with family members and Queens community members. The door to the shul opened into the lovely signature, famous, flowered courtyard that adorns Margaret Tietz. The scent of flowers wafted in during the concert.
